It's Monday

Forecast = more snow.  Seriously, WTH?!?!?!?!?!  I am about to start counting the hours and minutes until I get on the plane on Saturday for Cancun.  Yes, Cancun, on Saturday.  When we booked this trip, I was a little bummed that we had to push it so far into April, because in a normal year - April is awesome in Minnesota.  I love Spring.  The grass turns green, the flowers and trees start to bloom, my tulips sprout, by Mother's Day - my Crabapple Trees are gorgeous.  And, I figured we would be enjoying all of that when I got on the plane.  Wrong.  Snow, snow and more snow.  It snowed a foot last Thursday.....and we are supposed to get another 6-7 inches again tonight.  Gross!  I just keep thinking that at this time next week, I will be in a lounge chair, gazing out at the ocean with a frozen drink in my hand. Yup, it's 9am, who cares!

Cannot wait - Secrets-The Vine, Cancun.

I didn't quite make it to my 10lb down goal for this trip.  But, I have stuck to my exercise plan of 5x per week since the beginning of April and I'm happy with that.  I can tell that my clothes fit a little better and things are starting to feel a bit more toned....so as long as my shorts fit for vacation, I'll take it for now.  I'm really excited to stay at the new resort in Cancun.  My hubby has been reading all sorts of reviews and people have said that the gym is great.........yes, I will be bringing workout stuff.  If I'm going to be staying at an all-inclusive with loads of food & drink - I need to workout!

I took a step class on Saturday, it has been about 6 months since the last step class.  It was a fantastic workout - I was still sweating bullets about an hour after that class.  Seriously, I couldn't shower until I stopped sweating!  My calves are feeling the effects today.  I sit at a desk for work, so I'm trying to make sure that I get up about every hour and walk around (all of the water I've been drinking does help with that). No workout yesterday, but I'll be back at the gym tonight for a little cardio session before body pump.  My plan is to hit the gym every day this week; to make sure I have my 5 workouts in before I get on that plane on Saturday morning.

Cheers to a good week!

Snow, Again.

Yup, that is right.  If you are keeping score at home.....this is about the 12,000,000 day of snow in April  I am seriously over it.  People keep saying, it's Minnesota, get used to it.  But, this is insane.  I cannot recall the last April that had this much snow --- and I'm old....I remember a lot of April's.  I saw this on FB yesterday it made me laugh out loud and I 100% agree with this one:

One of these day's I'm going to participate in a link up.  I think that is probably the best way to get my "blog" out there.  For now, it is fine - I don't mind that nobody reads or follows.  I'm doing this mostly for myself to keep track and stay accountable, but eventually I guess it would be nice to have some people following.  At some point I will put myself out there.  Maybe next week?  I'm trying to figure out which one of the link-ups I want to do.  I'm thinking probably the Fat to Fit Friday --- that seems pretty much right inline with what I'm doing anyway on Friday's already.

Recap for the week/end.  I spent last weekend basically between the couch and bed.  I was sick.  I had a terrible stomach bug ~ I'm sure I got it from my kids......but mine was much worse (of course).  They each were sick for 1 day, puked had a low temp and then by the following day, they were better.  I was sick for 3 straight days.  I ate nothing but saltines and jell-o.  On the plus side, I lost 5 pounds.  Yup.  Now, once I started eating again, I did gain some back.  But as of today, I'm officially down 2 pounds.  I've been eating normal since Tuesday - so I'm going to count it as a real 2lbs lost.  I also took my measurements today.  I may just start doing that once a month to log here.

Happy Friday & Weekend.  Here are the weekly stats:
  • Bust:    35.5 in (Total:  -1.25)
  • Waist:  31.75 in (Total:  -0.75)
  • Hips/Butt:  42.5 in (Total -1.0)
  • Thighs:  25.0 in (Total -0.50)
  • Total Inches Lost = 3.50
  • Weight Loss = 2.5 lbs

Frustration Friday

Frustration.  I am frustrated.  I am trying not to be and I know there have been some positive changes that have happened in the past few weeks like:  I know that I feel healthier, that I'm getting stronger, that I can run longer than I could 3 weeks ago, and that my clothes do feel better.  But, I'm still frustrated.  The numbers aren't moving.  I know, I know, it's muscle, right?  Who knows --- but the fact that my scale hasn't moved below my current weight for the past 3 weeks sucks.  The measurements have only very slightly changed at all. It is FRUSTRATING.  But, I'm trying to stay positive.

I wasn't able to go to the gym on Tues or Wed because my kids were sick.  Last night I did my JM-Ripped in 30 video.  I did Week 1 and part of Week 2.  I didn't finish the entire week 2 circuit, because I just didn't have enough time to finish it before dinner and errands with my sister.  But, I did more than just the Week 1 program, so bonus!  I went to the gym this morning and did my Couch25k program - I went back to Week 3-Day 3.  I decided to try that one again before trying Week 4-Day 1 again (you can read about my fail here).  I don't really enjoy running - but I'm hoping at some point I will be able to run a mile.  Like I said, I'm trying to stay positive, I've been reading a ton of blogs every day and they help me stay motivated.  I was also inspired by Jess' post yesterday at Operation Skinny Jeans  (I have only been following her for a few weeks) but I kept thinking about her post when I was on the treadmill this morning and that kept me running when I wanted to stop and walk.  I am also going back to the gym tonight with my sister for a little Body Pump action - I'm hoping at some point, I'll be able to #flexbreak like Skinny Meg & Mama Laughlin

I have decided to make a doctor appointment to review the results of my latest thyroid tests and ultrasound.  My thyroid has been enlarged since 2009, and it has been checked and tested every year.....but the fact that I'm working out so hard, eating really well (and cleaner than before) has me questioning if something could be wrong with it, so I figured it cannot hurt to have the specialist review everything with me.

I am going to try to stay motivated this weekend - and NOT down an entire bottle of Skinny Girl Sangria by myself to drown my sorrows of not dropping any LBs.  Happy Friday - here are the weekly stats:
  • Bust:    36.5 in (-0.25)
  • Waist:  32.0 in (-0.50)
  • Hips/Butt:  43.5 in (0.0 - no change)
  • Thighs:  25.25 in (-0.25)
  • Total Inches Lost = 1.00
  • Weight Loss = 0 lbs

April Showers, nope it's SNOW!

Today is Thursday, April 11th.  The average high for this time in Minnesota is about 56 degrees....but today, it is 33 degrees and SNOWING!  It is terrible, to say the least.  Plus this week, my poor darlings were both sick.  Isabelle woke up on Monday morning and threw up in bed.  Poor thing, she was out of it for the entire day on Monday but started to feel better by Tuesday evening.........just in time for my little Lauren to start complaining that her tummy hurt.  Poor bug, she wanted to lie down in bed, so I tucked her in, kissed her head and went downstairs.  Less than 5 minutes later, she called out "Mommy, I just puked" (also in her brand new "big-girl" bed) - she was out of it for the entire night and part of yesterday.  They are both finally on the mend and back at school/daycare today.  Fingers crossed that Ryan and I don't get sick!

But, back to the snow.  It is horrible, it is pretty --- it looks like a snow globe that you shake up right now out my window, but it is APRIL - not December.  I'm over this snow!  Bring on the sunshine and 60 degrees that are typically part of spring in Minnesota so we can open the windows and air out our houses!!!!!  Not to mention, being outside and playing (cleaning up) in the yard!

From my window at work
Since my kiddos have been sick, I haven't been to the gym since Monday evening.  I was able to go on Monday both before work for cardio (although, not a great workout) and after work for Body Pump.  Taking Tues & Wed off made me feel a bit guilty; but I also haven't been sleeping great since the girls have been sick, so I couldn't imagine getting up at 4:30 this morning to get to the gym before work (not to mention the TERRIBLE rain/snow we have going on right now).  So, the plan is to go to the gym tonight, tomorrow morning for cardio, tomorrow evening for Body Pump and Saturday morning for something - maybe a step class.  That will still get me to my goal of 5x this week, even with taking Tues & Wed off.  I wasn't able to cleanse this week; but I may go for back-to-back cleanse days next week......Maybe.

Happy Thursday!

Happy Monday

Girls night out on Saturday was so fun!  We had such a great time at dinner and out for drinks after.  We basically went boutique hotel hopping!!  We started at dinner at Cosmos, at The Graves Hotel - we were in our own private room, Housewives Style - our waiter/server was Mat, one T.  He was hilarious and had no issues putting up with a group of 6 crazy ladies!  After our 2 hour dinner extravaganza, we headed over to The W to have more drinks and people watch ---- if we had been drinking more, there would have been dancing; but none of us were drunk enough!  By our last stop, there were just the 3 of us left, me, Michelle and Carrie.  We had drinks in our hotel - The Ivy to end the night.  It was so much fun - I love these ladies!

We woke up Sunday morning and headed to Keys Cafe for a delicious breakfast.  Sunday was my "day off" from the gym (although, I felt guilty all day that I didn't go --- I've gone almost every day since last Sunday, so it was probably better to let my body rest after the food & drinking weekend!)  And, I busted up out of bed (after "snoozing" for a few minutes this AM) at 4:40 to bust it to the gym in the POURING RAIN!  Of course I tortured myself by stepping on the scale, huge mistake.

I started C5K, week 4 today.  Epic FAIL!  I'm not sure if I was tired or that my body was just paying me back for the rich food and wine from the weekend, but I couldn't run for the 5 minute intervals.  I typically run/jog & walk my intervals for 45 minutes ---- but I just couldn't do that this morning either.  I walked/jogged/ran for 32 minutes --- and then did another 13 minutes on the elliptical instead and I will be back at the gym after work with my sister for a body pump class.  I want to get through this week 4 program!  I will try again tomorrow with Day 1 again; hopefully I can get through the 5 minute intervals ---- because I know the 8 minute ones are next!

I'm done with this terrible weather here in Minnesota too ---- rain today ---- and rain mixed with snow for the next 2 days.  Gross!  It is spring, so I can accept the rain, but snow - NO!  Enough already.  Bring on the sunshine!  On a good note - 19 days until Cancun!!  Happy Monday!

This is a Journey

I know it will take time, there is not a magic pill or immediate change that happens with starting to work out and eating better..........but when the scale just bounces back and forth:  down 2 lbs, back up 2 lbs, it gets very frustrating.  I've been experiencing this now for the past 3 weeks.  I started working out regularly then (at least 5x a week).  I'm doing cardio and strength training.  I've been using the treadmill - Couch25K (walking/running-jogging intervals) or some other cardio class at the gym and then mixing in either a BodyPump class or free weights/weight machines..........and I've been working really hard!  I've also been tracking my calories.  I am also a scale junkie - I weigh myself every morning.  And, that 2 down/2 up show is frustrating.  Today is my weigh-in/stats day.....and yet again today after all of this hard work:  NO CHANGE!!!  Again, for the 2nd week in a row.  GRRRRR.  I was at the doctor yesterday and she didn't really have any advice.  I got the standard:  maybe just stop weighing yourself for awhile; you know that muscle weighs more than fat; take your measurements instead (check) and are your clothes fitting better?  Same old.  I've heard all of these things before, hell, I've told my sister these things before......but, it doesn't help.  When that dang scale doesn't move down........it's irritating!

I did something earlier this week that I never thought I would do:  I emailed someone for motivation.  I emailed SkinnyMeg.  I knew that she understood this journey, because she has been on it.  I asked her how she stayed motivated when this happened to her in the past.  I was really just hoping that she would get back to me at some point with a response.  I couldn't believe it when less than 10 minutes later I had already received an email back.  It was so nice of her to take time and respond to me so quickly.  It really did help me that day to stay motivated and not give up.  I'm sure she gets tons of emails and questions from her blog; so I just wanted to thank her again.  She had some great ideas and suggestions, that I am going to try.  One suggestion was to eat more earlier in the day and less at night.  I'm going to work on that one.  The second is to try to cycle my calories:  High Calories one day, Low Calories the next day.....as a way to keep my body guessing.  I've started that one, and I love MFP to keep track of all of it.

C25k - Week 3/Day 3
Happy Friday to you - and here is hoping that making a few of these changes will finally bust that scale number down!

Weekly Stats (no change - 2nd week in a row):
  • Bust:    36.75 in
  • Waist:  32.5 in
  • Hips/Butt:  43.5 in
  • Thighs:  25.5 in
  • Weight Loss = 0 lbs
I have big plans this weekend!  I'm going to the gym tonight with my sister to rock out a BodyPump class - and then possibly a Spin class- Yikes!  Tomorrow morning I'll be back to get my workout #6 in for the week and then off to get my hair cut & colored!!!!  And I'm so pumped, my friend Michelle is going to be here this weekend!!  Tomorrow night we are staying at the Hotel Ivy with our other friend, Carrie and having girls night out.  Dinner and drinks and dancing maybe!  Recap and pictures to come next week.  I can't wait for the fun!  Have a great weekend!

26 days and counting

Today is Monday, April 1st - April Fool's Day.  Yesterday was Easter, I tried not to over-do it, but we had brunch at our house with yummy Blood Orange Mimosas (I used Red Orange, Trop 50 as the mix, so it had 50% less sugar) and they were DELICIOUS!  I just made up the recipe, I thought it would be a nice change from the basic mimosa....and it was!  We had ham (note:  I don't like ham, so I didn't eat that), cheesy potatoes, deviled eggs, fruit, cinnamon rolls and muffins.  I ate at least 4 deviled eggs, 2 helpings of cheesy potatoes, lots of fruit and 1/2 a cinnamon roll --- oh, and 2 mimosas, so I wasn't really surprised that the scale went up by 1 pound today.

The hubby and I are 26 days away from vacation.  We are staying here:  Secrets, Cancun.  With that looming, I figured today would be a good day to start a 30-day Isagenix program.  Tomorrow will be my first cleanse day - I didn't make it through the 9-day cleanse I was planning to start a few weeks ago.  But with vacation right around the corner, the scale not really moving at all in the past 2 weeks and the inches only just barely going down now is a great time to mix things up.  I figure it is only 30 days, right?  I can do ANYTHING for 30 days.

Here are my goals for the next 30 (ok, 26 until vacation.....) days:

  1. Increase my workouts (Note:  5x a week is the goal, but I am going to see if I can get something in every day by adding JM 30-Day Shred and/or Ripped in 30 along with my trips to the gym)
  2. Drink more water (goal to drink at least 2 containers at work - I think I have a 20oz container, but I need to confirm that)
  3. Have 4 cleanse days (at least 1 per week - no strenuous workout on these days)
  4. Track my calories and exercise (on My Fitness Pal)
  5. Reduce coffee intake (switch to tea on workdays and weekends if possible)
I'll be posting results before vacation ---- I like having the plan; and I'm positive that my summer clothes are going to fit better for vacation than they do today!  Happy Monday!

I finally brought in the Bolthouse dressing today - so I will be trying that out on my salad for lunch.
