Fitness Challenges

I've been a slacker.  Complete and total slacker ever since coming home from vacation.  I haven't been eating well or exercising like I was in my pre-vacation mode (5x per week).  It ends.  This weekend is Memorial Day weekend - the unofficial kick-off to summer and I can barely fit into my shorts.  It ends today. Yes, today.  It is Thursday, not Monday.  But, today is my kick-start.  I was reading some of my favorite blogs today and I'm inspired.  I've decided to jump on the 300/30 Ab Challenge that Holly is doing.  Also found here.  I'm also going to be starting a 30-Day Squat challenge on my own.  I found that here.  I figured:  Go Big or Go Home.  Right!

I've also started reading a book called The Wheat Belly based on a recommendation from my co-worker.  I'm not completely convinced that cutting out wheat completely from my diet is the end-all-be-all solution, but I figured why not try it and see.  I'm definitely more of the mind that everything is ok in moderation, but I'm pretty sure that I personally eat WAY too much wheat after reading the first few chapters of this book.  I've tried cutting out cheese and tracking my calories until the cows come home, but so far, not much has worked for my weight loss.....only down 2.5 pounds total since Jan.  It has been a yo-yo loss for me too, up 2 lbs, back down 2lbs.  I figured why not explore cutting back on some of the wheat I'm eating.  I'm going to go back to my 2-per day Isagenix shakes too.  I am going to try all of this for the next 30 days.  I can do anything for 30 days, right?  Right!  All I have to lose is those darn pounds!

Tomorrow in my "weekly weigh-in" I'll post a picture, my measurements and maybe my starting weight (how embarrassing to actually type that number - or photograph my scale......scary!).  I don't really have any followers so maybe it won't be that bad.....just in my own brain if anyone was to stumble upon my blog.  That is OK, this is about my own accountability and my personal journey.

Compliments

It is so nice when you get an unexpected compliment!  I've worked with a someone for over 2 years now in my current role, and today the subject came up about where I grew up.  It turns out that her ex-husband went to the same high school that I did --- so she asked me what year I graduated.  I responded '88, she looked at me like I had 2 heads and then said, "What?  as in 1988??  That is impossible".  I responded, "yup, I'm 43".  She started laughing and told me that she was positive that I was either exactly the same age as her or probably 1-2 years younger than she was.  She is 37.  

I also got carded at both restaurants when we went out to dinner at this weekend.  It is pretty funny, and I typically mention that I'm twice the legal drinking age (I won't lie and say I think I look remotely like I'm 21, but it is pretty funny to still get carded every once in awhile).  I would much rather get carded, then called "ma'am" like I'm ancient!  I don't like being called "ma'am" - I feel like my mother when that happens.  I would much prefer being called "miss".  

I owe it all to my parents though, I was blessed with good genes.  My mom and her sister's all look young for their age.  I look at them all and hope that I am as fortunate too look as young as they do when I'm in my 60's and 70's.

It is amazing how a simple compliment can just brighten your entire day.  It made me realize how simple it is to just say something nice to someone to make their day a little better too!  I think it may help that the sun is shining today, and it may hit 90 degrees - Bring it On!

Finally Friday

I have been a total slacker this week with posts.  I just haven't been motivated, which I know is terrible.  I was sick all of last weekend and I just haven't totally kicked this bug yet.  I've been eating horrible and have been working out even less.  But, that is what this blog is for, right?!  Right, to keep me accountable.  And I am going to get back on track.

Goals for next week: 
1)  Workout 5 times
2)  Track my food on MFP - haven't been there in awhile
3)  Spend time running and playing outside with my girls!  I think the weather is going to cooperate with us on that one - bonus!
4)  Prep food for next week
5)  Plan out some blog ideas
6)  Try out the "skinny cupcake" recipe

It was pretty nice here for part of this week.  My oldest has her track & field days next week and she has to run a mile for one of the events.  A mile, in first grade.  I think that is crazy!  So, on Tuesday after work, it was gorgeous outside - and I was going to jog/run outside.........I decided she should go with me.  My hubby took our youngest to the park and I told Belle she could ride her bike to the park and then we could run from there.  Compromise.  We took off from the park and she was sprinting.....I kept telling her to slow down, but she is 7 - she didn't care.  At about 0.5 miles, she said her tummy hurt and she wanted to stop.  We walked for a bit and I asked if it was really her tummy or more on the side, I was thinking she definitely had a side ache from sprinting.  She told me that she didn't like running (no kidding, me either!)....but we continued to run/sprint/walk and we made it almost 1.0 mile.  The weather didn't really cooperate the rest of the week for us to run again --- but I'm hoping we can try at least 2 more times before the event at school.  I even went out and got her new shoes - since she was running in sketchers on Tuesday.  

Oh, and speaking of the shoes I got them at Target (duh, where else?) and I used this cool new feature - Cartwheel (app?  it isn't an app yet, I'm guessing that is coming) to get a discount from the website.  You can get discounts on all sorts of items from Target.  Bonus, you can use the discount and a coupon off the Target.com website.  It was awesome - I love Cartwheel!  I can't wait to use it for groceries this weekend.  Check it out here!!

Vacation is over

It is Monday, and I'm back to reality home from vacation.  We actually got home on Wednesday last week; but I somehow managed to get both an ear infection and a sinus infection on the last day of vacation.  Let's just say that the plane ride home (stopping in Atlanta first) was NOT ideal.  Descending from 10,000 feet with an ear infection is maybe some of the worst pain I've ever felt (aside from child birth - the first time before I was given drugs and ended up having a C-section.  The 2nd time was another C-section, so no real birthing pains).

I managed to work out 3 of the 5 days (pretty good, since I didn't work out the day we got there - I already had to get up at 4am to get to the dang airport --- or the day we left since I was getting sick).  The view was amazing from the gym there.........I looked out at the ocean and ran/jogged & walked on the treadmill.  I could look at that view EVERYDAY!  We ate and drank round the clock, so even with working out I did manage to gain a few (3) pounds.  I am down 2 of them as of this morning - here is hoping I can drop one more by Friday - and be back to where I was before we left!

Since I've been sick since returning home, I have NOT worked out.  I was trying to stop over eating too - that darn all-inclusive eating extravaganza!  I would guess the -2lbs was from not consuming any alcohol for the last 4 days after 5 days straight of wine, mimosas, and many other frozen fruity wonders!  I haven't been drinking enough water since getting back either - I'm sure my illness has something to do with that, but today I've managed to drink about 1/2 of my daily goal.  And, I'm sure I'll make it up this evening with a trip to the gym.  I am going to go early to the gym to walk/jog/run on the treadmill before body pump class.

Oh, and it is FINALLY nice here in Minnesota!  Yesterday we turned a corner and it was +60 degrees.  Today is fantastic as well - it is back over 70 degrees.  I hope this is the turning point, and there is NO going back to the 30's and snow - after all, it is MAY!!!!!  Happy Monday!
